Wat is objectstorage?
Objectstorage and filestorage are two forms of Storage as a Service and they differ substantially from each other. Filestorage is the more familiar of the two: data is stored in files, which can be accessed through folders with a certain file structure. With object storage, data is stored in small units, also called objects. These objects have their own unique ‘key’, so they can always be found. Because of this storage method, objectstorage is highly scalable and has no file system limitations, contrary to filestorage. Objectstorage from Fundaments is offered based on Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage.
Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage
Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage offers a clustered storage solution, in which objects are made accessible through an enclosure in which firewalling and load balancing are applied. By applying load balancing, combined with a clustered setup, EMC Elastic Cloud Storage is highly scalable in amount of storage capacity as well as data accessibility. EMC Elastic Cloud Storage is categorised by Fundaments as archive storage. This type of storage is used for large volumes of archive data, which are not often accessed. EMC Elastic Cloud Storage offers an extensive S3 compatibility and also provides additional protocols for accessing the storage. This makes it widely applicable for different projects.
Common use cases for EMC Elastic Cloud Storage include storing large volumes of files used in archives: think graphics material, large amounts of log files or objects linked to databases for processing in applications.
