What is filestorage?
Filestorage in this case is the storage method most commonly known: data is stored in files, which can be accessed via folders with a certain file structure. Every time you want to access these documents, whether through your hard disk, computer or server, filestorage is involved. Filestorage from Fundaments is offered based on NetApp.
Different NetApp storage solutions
NetApp filestorage has different types, each with its own performance characteristics to suit the workload for which Fundaments Storage as a Service is deployed. These are:
1. Filestorage of type: Archive. Archive filestorage is used for large volumes of archive data, to which access is not often required.
2. Filestorage of type: Regular. Regular filestorage is used for generic workloads, such as domain controllers and application servers with limited IO demand.
3. Filestorage of type: Fast. Fast filestorage is used for performance workloads: applications used by many users.
4. Filestorage of type: Fast Plus. Fast Plus filestorage is deployed for write-intensive workloads, such as databases or applications with a heavy logging component.
SnapLock and SnapMirror technology
To secure data, NetApp works with a snapshot technology. This involves making all data blocks, at the time of snapshot creation (SnapLock), ‘immutable’. To store the local snapshots in a second location and thereby secure data outside a production data centre, it is possible to replicate a copy of the snapshots (SnapMirror) to a second NetApp platform.
100% control over your data
Want to be certain where your data resides? That's what Fundaments' Sovereign Cloud can guarantee. This gives you the assurance that your data is on Dutch soil, that it is managed by a Dutch party, which is Fundaments, and therefore there is full control over all your data. Fundaments' Private Cloud solutions are the basis for a solid and reliable IT infrastructure - at your premises or ours in the Netherlands. Our data centres are spread across seven data centre locations in the East, Central and West of the Netherlands. These are all Tier3+ locations: the highest achievable class for a Dutch data centre at the moment. A Tier3+ data centre has everything in place regarding security, including guaranteed power supply, intrusion protection, water and fire detection and climate control.
