Military Boekelo: always online thanks to chain cooperation of TReNT, Fundaments and Loogisch

This sports event is made possible by the chain cooperation of TReNT, Fundaments and Loogisch. Together, these companies based in Twente ensure that Military Boekelo is always online, with each company having its own speciality.

TReNT's fibre-optic connection as the lifeline for all communications

The chain starts with the building block of TReNT Glass fibre. Since 2008, TReNT has been providing the Military with a dark fibre optic connection between Boekelo and data centre Equinix in Enschede. They have also built a complete fibre-optic ring on the main site where the Military has been taking place since 2017. At the time, several suppliers donated the necessary materials (HDPE pipe Electroplast and fibre-optic cable TKF) and/or labour for this, either selflessly or at a reduced price. After completion, TReNT donated this fibre-optic ring to the organisation and it is therefore now owned by the Military. Thanks to TReNT's connections, the Military has a solid network through which they can communicate with the outside world. It is the lifeline for all communications.

Super stable internet thanks to Fundaments

The next step in the chain is the internet, because with just a fibre-optic cable, you're not there just yet. There still needs to be an internet signal over that. Fundaments is responsible for this digitisation. Starting at the Equinix data centre, Fundaments provides the internet signal on the cable. For this, Fundaments has made an IP address available that provides the Military with super-stable internet. And that is of great importance. The organisation wants to be able to communicate jury results immediately, to share scores live with both the riders and the audience at the event, but of course the TV viewers at home don't want to miss a second.

The Military's internet traffic naturally peaks only one weekend a year. In the month leading up to the event, the first traffic starts running through the cable again. And in the weeks after, it quickly weakens. This flexibility is not an issue for Fundaments: they can easily scale up at peak loads and scale down when things calm down again.

All signs on green with monitoring from Loogisch

Loogisch is now inextricably linked to the Military in Boekelo. For over 27 years, Loogisch has been responsible at all levels for the (data) communication technology during the event. From the technical design to the coordination and implementation of all the IT infrastructure. They ensure that every network and signal reaches the right place on the site. In addition, Loogisch takes care of the necessary hardware, security and bandwidth management. From the directing role, Loogisch ensures that the services of parties such as TReNT and Fundaments are properly deployed.

The aim of Loogisch? To ensure that the tens of thousands of visitors and organisers can enjoy the event without any worries. Of course, it is also of great importance that the employees of the organisation, jury, timekeepers, reception pavilion, stables and sponsors, among others, can do their work without any problems and that various livestreams, a live TV broadcast, national and international media channels, over two hundred press accreditations and more than one hundred IT workstations run smoothly through the IT infrastructure. This means that all the necessary data and communication links on as well as around the Military site must be in excellent shape. Everything has to work properly and stably. Using the control environment created by Loogisch in Microsoft Teams and Network Monitor, everything is coordinated and monitored. This control environment quickly reveals whether everything is going according to plan. Loogisch's technical colleagues monitor the entire environment and can act on the available information at any time. It is wonderful to see that the investments made over the years as well as the continuous improvements are doing their job. That's Loogisch!
