PROTECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT WITH THE PROPER MEASURES
By now, you have identified your risks, mapped the environment and revealed the vulnerabilities. So you now know exactly what you need to safeguard. Actually safeguarding, and thus taking measures to secure your business, is the ‘protect’ part within the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
What exactly is the NIST Cybersecurity Framework ? We described that in an earlier article. You can read it here.
PREVENTING INCIDENTS
The ‘protect’ phase is about preventing a cybersecurity incident. You do this by taking measures that ensure the delivery of critical services and infrastructure. You can use some key best practices for data protection and cybersecurity here. It is important to look as broadly as possible at all aspects of the Cloud. People, technology and policy are all important issues here. Apply the following, among others:
1. Access control: knowing who in your organisation is allowed to access what and then organising it that way;
2. Information security processes and procedures: ensuring that processes and procedures are in place for information security aspects;
3. Awareness: making staff aware of all security risks, procedures and policy rules;
4. Data security: managing data and ensuring the availability, integrity and confidentiality of data;
5. Maintenance: maintaining in a robust manner without impacting your business operations;
6. Technology: technical solutions for securing your Cloud (Firewall, DDOS laundry & BaaS).
DDOS LAUNDRY
The DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attack, is a common threat. The principle of this threat is simple. During a DDoS attack, often infected computers send a lot of requests to an application or server. In this way, the server becomes overloaded and unreachable. Fundaments' DDoS laundry offers organisations the necessary protection against these attacks. This is because during a DDoS attack, the DDoS traffic is ‘washed’. This way, the DDoS traffic and legitimate traffic are separated, after which the clean traffic returns to Fundaments' own network. So your service, website, application or email traffic continues to work as usual and your employees hardly notice the rerouting.

FIREWALL
A firewall is a security system that stands between the internet and, in this case, Fundaments' servers. The firewall provides security, filtering and separation of traffic to your virtual environment and applications. In doing so, it analyses all data going in and out of the Cloud environment. Depending on the settings, it determines what gets past the firewall and what is blocked.

BAAS
In short, a backup is nothing more than a copy of data in another location. For example, on another computer or in the Cloud. Thanks to a backup, data is protected in case of, for instance, accidental deletion of files, theft or technical problems such as a hard drive crashing. Thanks to a backup, there is always data to fall back on.
