THE BACKGROUND AND ADVANTAGES OF PRIVATE CONNECTIONS

Retrospective
For a long time, the norm in process and office automation was that data and applications were deployed and managed from in-house environments as much as possible. Servers and primary backups were on-site. Later on, the possibility of using leased lines for externally located data and applications followed. The high cost of these lines and low bandwidth prevented large-scale use. When broadband internet became commonplace and available bandwidth increased, the possibility of using VPNs for this purpose followed. In other words, partially shielded communication over the regular internet. This possibility was and still is widely used.
