The various Cloud routes
A huge Cloud migration is taking place. The easy way to consume, the huge scalability and pay by use makes the Cloud the way to go for many organisations. But just like multiple roads lead to Rome, multiple roads also lead to the Cloud. Which roads are those, what is the difference between these roads and how do organisations know which is the right one for them? Those questions are answered by Larik-Jan Verschuren, CTO of Fundaments, and Paul Bootsma, Senior Consultant at Dell Technologies, in this white paper on Cloud routes

1. Cloud migration: the trend and the challenges
Why is there such a big Cloud migration going on? Larik-Jan Verschuren, CTO of Fundaments: ‘The explanation for this is mainly because of the convenience. IT infrastructure has necessarily became a commonplace. Everyone needs it, but people mostly don't want to deal with it. How convenient it is to get this from a Cloud provider, for example a hyperscaler or Private Cloud provider like Fundaments. In addition, the way of consumption is very important in the popularity of the Cloud: OPEX costs fit most business operations much better than CAPEX models, which require upfront investment in hardware. So if you can easily consume and thereby pay according to usage as with the Cloud, all barriers are actually removed. Furthermore, you see that the underlying infrastructure often does not bring distinctive value. Of course it has to be good and always available, but the application being used makes the added value.’
