Retrospective

‍Online services have been offered since the 1990s. Initially, the requirements for this technology were not too high. Security of both content and data integrity were still not given much thought. If more capacity was needed, new hardware was simply purchased and added. Even if it was only a temporary capacity increase. The first large-scale intentional disruptions of online services were a wake-up call for many companies. Providers of information, such as data centres, hosters and website operators, recognised the need to invest more systematically to ensure security and availability of data and services. Despite this, the number of unforeseen incidents remained high, while dependence on online services continued to grow.
