For several years now, Fundaments has seen strong increase in the significance of Public Cloud as a valuable platform for hosting applications. By starting a partnership with CloudNation - expert and strategic knowledge partner in accelerating Public Cloud transformations - Fundaments can further strengthen and accelerate its Public Cloud proposition. Where CloudNation provides its technical knowledge of Public Cloud platforms in the form of designing and developing the environment, Fundaments tops this up with managed services. Together, this forms a rock-solid combination for implementing a Public Cloud strategy, always secured with future-proof continuity thanks to managed services.
Fundaments and CloudNation work closely together on IT transformation issues, both when transforming existing applications to Public Cloud as well as when developing new services in the Public Cloud. They work in accordance with the sprint methodology. During sprint 0 (Cloud Readiness Assessment), the customer's current environment and wishes are inventoried, after which the first phase (Define and Design) consists of drawing up a backlog for automated building in Public Clouds such as AWS, Azure and Google. Finally, during the second phase (Build and Iterate), the defined backlog is executed and the managed environment is built. This is all about ensuring quality and consistency: scripting with the application of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is essential here.
During the IT transformation, the customer is at the centre: preferably, sprints are performed together. As a result, the customer not only gains knowledge, but also insight into the importance of changing concepts to use Public Cloud properly. In doing so, the end result is always the same: simple, fast and a consistent deployment of Platform as a Service in which an application can be deployed. Once the transformation is complete, Fundaments remains the point of contact with its experienced service desk. Services such as monitoring, backup and disaster recovery, as well as change and incident response, make up the managed service.
Larik-Jan Verschuren, CTO at Fundaments: ‘Our customers now mostly operate in the Fundaments Cloud. However, some have international ambitions and want to be able to scale across geolocations. We then consider with the customer and CloudNation whether a transformation to the Public Cloud is a good option. From our years of knowledge and experience with our own Cloud infrastructure, we also know better than anyone else to build bridges and thus realise hybrid solutions as well as complete transformations to Public Cloud.’
By adding CloudNation's competence to its expertises, Fundaments can speed up its investment in a Managed Public Cloud proposition. ‘This saves us a lot of time and money, so we can really accelerate. In addition, we help CloudNation by providing our managed services and exchange our knowledge with each other. This makes the interplay really complete,’ Larik-Jan Verschuren said.
Arjen Vriens, Co-founder of CloudNation: ‘The adoption of Public Cloud in the shape of AWS or Azure is starting to become more and more commonplace. To get through this IT transformation properly and embed it within the organisation, it is important to have a solid foundation, however, in order to achieve this, the right competence is required. We started CloudNation to be this external ‘Cloud Centre of Competence’ for third parties and support a wide variety of customers with generic Cloud expertise, but also very specific issues such as Cloud networking and connectivity or application modernisation issues. Our partnership with Fundaments adds another dimension to this through a managed service proposition.’
