VMware Explore: The future of Enterprise is Private Cloud

Last Tuesday, August 27, VMware Explore kicked off in Las Vegas, on the topic: ‘Shaping the Future of Cloud and AI Innovation’. VMware Explore, almost a year after its acquisition, is now under the Broadcom banner for the first time. The keynote brought CEO Hock Tan on stage and he highlighted a number of interesting topics.

Hock Tan commented that all the feedback they have received has been very much listened to and they understand that it is important for the products not only to get better, but also to be more user-friendly and to interact better with each other. This, Tan said, is something they have been working hard on and it will be showcased at VMware Explore this week.

In addition, he indicated that everything will be different from how it has been: it is about running a business effectively and it is not just about the ‘bright shiny objects’. And this is where Tan strikes the bridge to the ‘bright shiny objects’ that companies saw 10 years ago in the public Cloud resulting in: the Public Cloud first strategy. However, we now see that a number of obstacles have also emerged out of this strategy. Tan identifies the following three:

  • Cost: de kosten van publieke cloud, die vaak veel hoger zijn dan bedrijven verwachten.
  • Complexity: the complexity of managing the public Cloud and yet another layer to be managed.
  • Compliance: the grip on data and how it is controlled is more complex in a public Cloud.

Based on this development, Tan identifies a trend which he is noticing: companies are taking their workloads out of the public Cloud again and moving them back to the private Cloud.

And with this trend, Broadcom is showing that Private Cloud is going to be the answer for all enterprise Clouds, be it infrastructure or services, this is fulfilled with VMware by Broadcom's Private Cloud solution. As Tan says, ‘The Future of the Enterprise is Private’.
