After 10 months without rallying in the Netherlands, the first rally of the season will finally be held on September 19: the Vechtdal Rally. Raoul Werger (CEO of Fundaments) will be one of the participants at the start on September 19. His co-driver Ingo ten Vregelaar and their brand new Ford Fiesta R2 are also more than ready.
Raoul and Ingo have known each other for quite some time and have two similarities: entrepreneurial spirit and passion for speed. After an enjoyable evening, they decided that something had to be done with this and picked up a rally car (Peugeot 206) to gain some experience in rallying. Soon they built a nice team surrounding them, consisting of: Stefan Pot, Brynan Blauwehand and Sander Leferink. Not long after, they bought their current car (Ford Fiesta R2) and achieved a great 2nd place during their very first rally with this car, the Hellendoorn Rally.
All in all, they now have a year of experience, which is obviously not much. To add the icing on the cake, the corona virus happened as well, making it impossible to race at all. All of YouTube was therefore scoured for rally videos, which have now all been studied. A lucky coincidence: the past six months were the perfect opportunity to bring the car to full new condition and test it.
Ingo is clear about what he has most missed recently: ‘Actually everything, because racing is in our blood. Enjoying a whole weekend on the road with the team and of course the excitement of a race is what I miss the most. Besides, we are of course still quite new to this sport and still have to discover everything.’
Despite the fact that this year's official championships have been completely cancelled, Raoul and Ingo are still driving a number of rallies. Raoul: ‘We would like to gain experience and this is actually the perfect opportunity for that. Besides the Vechtdal Rally, we will also participate in the ACtronics Achterhoek Rally ( October 3) and the Conrad Twente Rally (October 25). The Dutch championships will come again next year!’
Raoul and Ingo's car has also recently undergone a major transformation in terms of appearance and received a completely new livery.
Raoul: ‘We are very happy with the awesome colours and great sponsors, something to be proud of! In addition, the Fundaments slogan fits the mindset of our team perfectly: GO BEYOND. BE THE BEST. We start every rally with this motto and as a reminder, we have had it displayed large on our car.’
